(This was written before the U.S. bombed nuclear facilities in Iran. Now we’ve really got to step up our game. This is still the rough draft, but I decided to just publish it.)
(June 22nd update, which I forgot to include in the first draft: Support Free Press)
June 21, 2025
Thank you to all the people who participated in the “No Kings” protest. They have guts and a genuine desire to help get the country back on track, fighting the erosion of civil rights and other abuses of power, and showing Congress, which is supposed to be doing that job, that it matters to the citizens of the country.
If you’re not a demonstrator, there are other things you can do to support what’s good in the country.
Write: Write letters to the editor, write OpEds, blog posts, social media posts, write to your representatives and to all the others in Congress. Remind them of their responsibilities; let them know that the safety of the country matters to more people than just the demonstrators.
Support Free Press: Make sure that the free press isn’t quashed simply because it presents points of view that don’t praise the administration. Donate to the medium of your choice.
Scale back: Do what you can to lessen air pollution, water pollution, and trash waste. This administration is repealing laws aimed at protecting the health of citizens and the planet, so we’re going to have to step up and protect ourselves.
Recycle: We’ve all gotta use things, but dispose of them responsibly, e.g., Don’t put batteries in the landfills. Compost what you can rather than put it in the trash. Yes, it matters.
Change your passwords: No sense in helping hackers from this country and others swipe your money. Change them at work, too. Any cyberattack affects more than a company: Think hospitals, utilities, airlines and financial institutions; the fallout for those who use those services can be devastating. Everybody is vulnerable—Do your part to protect the country’s assets.
Pray: If you’re unable to physically make a difference, you can still pray. Many people don’t believe in the efficacy of prayer. I do. If you believe in it, don’t stint; lay it out there.
Candidates: If you find somebody that you believe can make a difference, promote them, back them, bring them to your party’s attention.

All of these are terrific. I'd add "Vote, vote, vote like your life depends on it!"
