THAT'LL Show 'Em

November 29, 2022

Republican officials in Arizona’s Cochise County are refusing to certify the results of the 2022 election, since Democrats won some top races. If you can’t beat ’em, ignore ’em, I guess.

Unfortunately, if they don’t canvass the election—required by Arizona law—by next week, Cochise County’s votes won’t be received in time and will be excluded.

That would flip at least two winners from Republican to Democrat.

Now He Tells Them!

November 21, 2022

The radio Bible study today dealt with Daniel and his friends refusing to eat the food that Nebuchadnezzar supplied, because it was proscribed for Jewish people. Instead, Daniel proposed to the man in charge of the cadre of young men chosen as the best of the best that he and his friends only eat vegetables, and the king could determine whether their health suffered. In this way, he and his friends honored God and kept the commandments of their religion, proving that they were faithful, even when it would have been to their worldly advantage just to go along with what the king wanted.

I couldn’t help remembering that centuries later, Jesus said, “It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of it.”

I imagined Daniel sitting up in heaven, going, “Then what did I go through all that for???”

The Mystery that Is Roy Blunt

November 17, 2022

With the end of his Senate career in sight, Roy Blunt is voting for gun control measures and for making gay and interracial marriage safe through congressional laws.

His late-stage turnaround makes me wonder if he ever voted his conscience, or if he just voted the way he thought he needed to in order to stay in office. (In which case, why be there, if you’re not going to shape the country the way you think it ought to be?)

I don’t read tell-all books, but I would like to see a professionally-produced psychological profile on the guy.
