On a recent road trip to Chicago, I ran into a former co-worker at a rest stop. We hadn’t seen each other in 5 years, so we did a quick catch-up, and went on our ways. I enjoyed chatting with her.
At the same rest stop, I saw a woman in a blue nun’s habit going in as I was coming out. We smiled at each other and moved on.
At the next rest stop I saw her again. We gave each other that pleased, “Oh, it’s you!" look and, without speaking, went on our ways. I kind of wished I’d talked to her, but it might have spoiled the magic.
On the way home, I stopped for gas and went inside the store. “Bus Stop” was playing over the speaker, so I started singing along. A woman said, “Who sings that?” “The Hollies,” I replied, and we smiled at each other and moved on.
I like making those little connections. They just make me feel good.
