I try not
to get involved in Facebook silliness, and I try not to speak for the Lord (that is, put words in His mouth). But
I did kind of lose it the other day when someone posted a meme that said that when
vaccines were mandated for healthcare workers, 70,000 of them quit. “What does
that tell you?” said the meme. One person commented that the virus had a 99.8%
recovery rate, but people were too busy hiding behind their masks to care.
Since I know that the poster is a sincere—honestly—Christian, I assumed that her friend who made the comment also claimed to be Christian.
So I was intrigued. It was kind of like the inverse of the Parable of the Lost Sheep. Instead of leaving the 99 sheep to look for a lost one, these people would turn their backs on that .2 percent—all 700,000+ and counting, in the US alone—just because they didn’t want to wear masks. It seemed like a clear example of “What WOULDN’T Jesus Do?”
I wanted
to say, “I don’t know what admission to Heaven looks like in your mind. But if
it’s the scenario with Jesus separating the sheep from the goats, you might
want to have a backup plan.”

I'm going to share this with my minister who is "confused" by all of the information and changing mask and safety requirements. Maybe I can make it analogous to his current sermon series on Jonah refusing God's order to go to Nineveh until God got very specific via the whale. Clearly, they are not seeing the very clear message of 700,000+ Americans dead from Covid as a message from God. They are not listening. Therefore, I propose we start calling them "chinos" or "chrinos" i.e. christians in name only. Perhaps it's time God smote them.
"But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities: Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
— Deuteronomy 19:11-12
Maybe I'm a Chrino too, because I think some smitings would be useful--especially to the politicians who know better (and have gotten vaccinated), but continue to spread the death-lie so that they can be re-elected by their (dead?) base.
My feeling is that, since we wear masks to protect other people, Jesus certainly would have. Would He have needed to worry about getting sick? Probably not (although the Bible never mentions invulnerability as one of His assets). And maybe He wouldn't have been able to pass on the virus either. BUT...He certainly didn't need to get baptized--He did it to set an example. And He didn't need to wash the disciples' feet, either, but He did it as an example of service to and caring for others.
What better service can you give people, what better way to show you care, than to wear a mask when you're in public, to prevent them from getting a deadly disease?
WWJD? My feeling: He would protect people. All people. (Even the ones we think deserve a good smiting.)
