Medicine's New Best Friend?

January 10, 2026

An outbreak of measles in South Carolina has 200 people in quarantine.

I don’t know what repercussions the quarantine is having on child care and livelihoods, but maybe it will get the point across that measles is nothing to fool with.

Maybe the inconvenience of the quarantine will accomplish what common sense failed to do: Get the vaccination rate up again.

Even a Stopped Clock Is Right Twice a Day

RFK, Jr. is recommending that people eat non-processed food, including whole milk and butter. I’ve been a fan of those two things for years, so I can’t fault him on that. It’s just that, since the recommendations are coming from him, a lot of people will probably ignore them as more of his uninformed anti-science nonsense.

It’s a shame, really. Like the proverbial stopped clock, he finally got something right.

(On the other hand, maybe the people who believe his anti-scientific medical advice will listen to this. Who knows?)

Put That Obstructiveness to Good Use

July 23, 2025

An article in the Post-Dispatch says that Missouri may have a hard time meeting the deadline for making sure adults on Medicaid are working. The deadline is December 31, 2026 and the Mo. Department of Social Services says it will take at least 2 years from now to comply.

When the federal government required Real IDs for air travel, Missouri successfully dragged its feet for years, getting more than one extension of the deadline.

Maybe they can do that again.
