In 2022 I wrote about class-action lawsuits, and how much of the settlements really went to the plaintiffs (not much) and how much went to the lawyers (a lot!).* I said that there should be a law that the majority of the settlements actually goes to benefit the people who suffered.
Recently, the taxpayers of Missouri paid $975,000 in a settlement to a prison guard who was harassed by her boss. The result?
Plaintiff: $159,000
Lawyers: $$816,000
