Hawk Watch

 April 17, 2012

On the way to work the other day I saw a hawk bringing food to its nest. A little head was sticking up over the side, but it disappeared when the food came. I was sorry I couldn’t stop and see if I could spot the little guy again.

This morning, in another area, we also saw a hawk bringing back food to its nest. We tried to see where the hawk was going, but lost sight of it. I mentioned that one way to find a hawk nest is to walk around in the area you think it might be; if you actually do get near the nest, the hawk will dive at you and harass you until you leave.

Neither of my passengers seemed to think much of this idea.

On the way home I saw that hawk or another one hunting some more. I hope it was another one—the thought of that constant running around makes me tired.

School Work

April 16, 2012

I don’t usually make too much fun of typos in the paper, because I’m hardly immune myself. But this one is worth sharing.

In an article about getting funding for going to college, the writer mentions a high-school senior “pouring over” scholarship programs and filling out forms.

The irony tickled me.

Moonlighting?

April 16, 2012

Did anybody else notice last week that Hawaii 5-0 and Body of Proof both featured murders in the style of a serial killer who has supposedly been jailed for years; and that on both shows, a main character is tied up by said killer and frees him/herself with a piece of glass (roughly the same size and shape in both shows) that came to hand because the killer smashed a lot of glass during a rampage?

Cosmic coincidence or moonlighting script writer? You decide.

Animal Behavior

April 13, 2012

Of these two animal behaviors, guess which I find harder to believe:

1) Baboons can recognize which groupings of letters form words; or

2) People camped out beginning at 11:49 p.m. Thursday for the grand opening of the Nordstrom’s Rack store at 9 a.m. Friday.

Junior Achievement

Why does a pair of jeans in the Juniors section cost $10 more than the same pair of jeans in a Girls size 16?
