Rethinking the Order of Service

June 25, 2017

I wonder if pastors ever get depressed about how church services are set up. The sermon is in the middle of the service, so if the pastor wanted to get the congregation all fired up about missions, or not sinning, or even just being nice to other people, the zeal would all have leaked away during the routine of the rest of the service. But if the sermon came after Communion, who would stay and listen? A definite conundrum.

Come to think of it, though, I haven’t been to a service lately where the pastor wanted the congregation to get fired up about anything. They just preach a lesson and move on; so I guess they’ve worked it out.
