They DO Sound Better with an Accent!

December 8, 2022

British actor Tom Ellis commented, “…I found that if you speak with a British accent in America, you can say pretty much anything and get away with it.” I sort of proved it today. I saw that Roy Blunt gave a retirement speech calling for Bipartisanship in Congress. This is the guy who vowed to block any person that President Obama nominated to the Supreme Court, regardless of the person’s qualifications, voted against impeaching Trump and blocked (until he announced his retirement) all attempts at gun control. As far as I can tell, he voted that way on purely partisan grounds.

When I saw the picture and the headline I said, “You (noun). Then I said, “You (adjective, adjective noun).” The 2nd phrase accidentally came out sounding British, and Tom Ellis was right! The words do sound better that way!

The Mystery that Is Roy Blunt

November 17, 2022

With the end of his Senate career in sight, Roy Blunt is voting for gun control measures and for making gay and interracial marriage safe through congressional laws.

His late-stage turnaround makes me wonder if he ever voted his conscience, or if he just voted the way he thought he needed to in order to stay in office. (In which case, why be there, if you’re not going to shape the country the way you think it ought to be?)

I don’t read tell-all books, but I would like to see a professionally-produced psychological profile on the guy.

Advice for Budding Politicians

 January 16, 2021

As easy as it would be for whoever campaigns against Blunt and Hawley in the next election to point out the horrible things they’ve done and left undone in their terms,

I hope that they will also list the positive changes they intend to push for. Just saying that somebody else is a sorry excuse for a Champion of the People doesn’t mean that you’ll be any good.

So tell us what you’re going to do, and how you’re going to do it. And mean it.

A Blunt Assessment

January 15, 2020

Senator Roy Blunt has resolutely refused to support measures that would help alleviate the effects of climate change; weigh in on gun-control; or  admit that any of the President’s antics are censure-worthy.

Shortly before he is up for re-election, will Sen. Blunt conveniently come out in cautious favor of addressing climate change, and possibly gun control? It seems that the political climate is trending that way.

Sorry, Sen. Blunt. You had your chance. As far as I’m concerned, you needn’t even bother to run. And I hope that the majority of the voters feel the same way. Too little, too late.

The Greater Good

February 24, 2016

To convince us that he’s the right man to represent Missouri in the U.S. Senate, Roy Blunt has vowed to block any person that President Obama nominates to the Supreme Court, regardless of the person’s qualifications.

Senator, I don’t think it’s supposed to work that way. I think you’re supposed to be trying to find the person who will do the most good for your constituents, not act like a little kid who’s just trying to annoy some other kid he doesn’t like.
