When you’re dressing for your hot Valentine’s Day date, consider this:
According to a column by Catherine Rampell of the Washington Post, the tariff on women’s underwear is higher than the tariff on men’s underwear. Can you believe that?
We all know that women get charged more for dry cleaning; and that the same shirt costs more in the women’s section than the men’s; but higher tariffs on underwear? That is some seriously institutionalized sexism.
You’d think that the fancy, expensive underwear would have high tariffs—but no, it’s your run-of-the mill cottons and polyesters that have the highest rates; so women are taxed more than men, and poorer women are taxed more than richer women. That’s just wrong!
So, if you’re dating anyone who has anything to do with tariffs—break out the boxers and see if any of those people get motivated to right this undercover injustice.
