NOW He's Concerned About The Environment?

May 15, 2023

St. Louis County Councilman Ernie Trakas, who never met a common-sense idea that he didn’t fight against, is now giving the sewer district a hard time about upgrading to a more efficient system for burning biosolids.

Currently, the sewer district burns biosolids that give off emissions that include arsenic, benzene, chromium, formaldehyde and mercury, and contribute to breathing problems in the area near the plant. Trakas says that the upgrades will subject residents to 60 more years of breathing  the waste—and doesn’t seem to care that the upgrades will reduce the emissions significantly.

Groups that decried the old system are in favor of the new one. But not Mr. Trakas. However, since the EPA has mandated the changes, he will very likely not be able to stall the project too much longer.
