I don’t generally pay attention to the pearls of wisdom that fall from the lips of such people as Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, so I brushed off their comments about how the lower birth rate was going to cause a global economic meltdown. But about 2 weeks ago someone sent me a video that made me pay attention.
According to these intellectual giants, the world’s population is shrinking, and that is a bad thing. They contend that more people lead to more money being made, the world’s economy keeps growing, and people don’t starve to death.
I think they’ve missed the part where having more people means more crowding and disease, less arable land, and consequently, less of a food supply. People starve to death.
I think they’ve missed the part where Earth’s resources are already stretched thin: Clean water is disappearing; air is unbreathable in places; seas are rising and will be driving population inland, further depleting farmland, etc. I think they’ve missed the part where Earth’s population keeps growing—just not where they want it to.
If they’re worried about having more of a population in the U.S., they should consider an obvious alternative: Redistribution of population. Encourage people to leave countries where the population is starving, and bring them here, so that they can eat, earn money, and buy from Amazon and get Cybertrucks.
Oh, wait. That’s called IMMIGRATION.
