In a previous post, I suggested that new cars come with a model of the dashboard, so that new owners could practice using the bells and whistles before they took the car on the road.
It occurred to me that, while the salespeople were dragging out negotiations by “consulting with the manager” or trying to wear you down by keeping you waiting for hours while they tried to get you to accept their financing, that having you practice on the model would bond you to that particular car, and they’d have a better chance of sealing the deal.
I’m not saying that I approve of the approach, or hope that it happens—but it would certainly be a savvy marketing technique.
