Some members of the St. Louis County council want to enact a use tax, which means that people get taxed for what they buy online. Naturally, it’s not a popular move.
Meanwhile, Missouri taxes feminine hygiene products and diapers at a higher rate than groceries, as they are apparently considered luxury items.
2 thoughts:
1) Maybe advocacy groups could help people in need buy their diapers and tampons online to avoid the tax. May as well take advantage of the loophole while you can.
2) Maybe someone who is NOT wearing feminine protection or a diaper at a crucial time could sit in a chair in the legislative chamber, then offer the chair to its customary occupant. THEN we could see how much of a luxury the lawmakers thought those products were.
