A school board in Missouri decided to remove Black history and Black literature electives from the curriculum. After students and parents protested, the board decided to bring them back.
One reader wrote to the newspaper saying that the board was right to discontinue the courses, as fewer than 8% of the students in the district were African American. Presumably, she didn’t think that anyone else would be interested in learning about Black people’s contributions to society.
I think she’s made the point about why the curriculum is a good idea.

From the post "And I was Worried about Electronic Textbooks Getting Hacked" (March 11, 2022)
“Lawmakers look to give parents more school oversight”. Judging by recent events right here in Missouri, we can confidently expect to hear that the Earth is flat, the Christian God is the only one who matters, that science is an elective, and that literature is dangerous. (Emphasis added for this replay.)
Proving that I was NOT making wild assertions.
