One Might Sound Affected When Utilizing This Verbiage

June 7, 2012

I just found out that “coronated” is an actual word. My sister heard a TV commentator use it, and we looked it up in Merriam-Webster. Sure enough, there it is. (But Microsoft Word doesn’t recognize it.)

I don’t know what kind of person uses it—someone who is super-informed, someone who wants to sound pompous, or someone who doesn’t realize that one is “crowned” at a coronation.

While we’re on the subject of weird words, one of my goals is to someday be CEO of a company, solely for the purpose of banning the use of the words “utilize” and “utilization” in any memos or correspondence.
