Why Didn't They Think of It?

May 23, 2022

When we heard about ports being backlogged and causing supply chain issues in 2020, I’m sure that many people, like me, assumed that everything possible was being done to relieve the pressure on the ports and get the goods moving.

Strangely, it wasn’t until President Biden convened a task force in 2021 to study the problem that the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach started operating 24/7.

If you were a business that was getting mired in doo-doo because you couldn’t get your goods unloaded—and by mired in doo-doo, I mean losing lots and lots of money—wouldn’t you have demanded that that happen anyway?

Well, you might say, there are steps and legal obstacles that may have needed to be overcome.

Have you even known people, or a consortium of people, who have lots of money, to not get what they wanted? What steps were businesses taking to get the ports moving?

So the next time you’re blaming the president for inflation (a condition caused when demand outstrips supply), ask yourself—who really helped cause the situation?
