Lawmakers: Looking out for…Well, not the public.
Fearful that people’s addiction to smoking would outweigh their addiction to gambling, casino owners in Missouri and elsewhere have leaned on lawmakers—who wilted fairly easily, one feels—to not ban smoking in casinos.
If smoking were banned in casinos, I’d be curious to see which addiction would win—smoking or gambling.
Has anybody looked at statistics on bars and bowling alleys who had to enforce smoking bans? Did they lose all the business they thought they would? Have any casinos banned smoking, and have they lost business?
I’ll bet the lawmakers never even asked.
